Buddy Moss - Restless Night Blues: Complete Recorded Works 1933-1941 Volume 1 (CD)

After Blind Blake disappeared from the recording scene in the early 1930s, the next influential figure in the East Coast blues was Buddy Moss.

After Blind Blake disappeared from the recording scene in the early 1930s, the next influential figure in the East Coast blues was Buddy Moss. Moss recorded solidly for a couple of years, and it was only when he was sent to prison in 1935 that the next important musician from the region appeared - Blind Boy Fuller. Moss's stretch in jail coincided more or less with Fuller's brief period in the spotlight, and when he emerged to record again in 1941, the vogue for solo down-home blues was virtually over. Moss has never enjoyed the acclaim that has been accorded Blake and Fuller, but his music really does deserve attention. Moss was an excellent guitarist, in the ragtime-inflected style favoured by the East Coast musicians, although he was perhaps more solidly a blues artist than some others. He was also very fine singer, and could put together thoroughly decent lyrics.
